Pillar 13G Double Square Brass Nipple – 16 mm - Silver

Double Square nipples have been a popular choice with 14 gauge spokes for a long time. They are now available for wheel builders working with the 13 gauge spokes typically used on e-bike and cargo-bike wheels. An advantage of a double square nipple is to increase the tool purchase on the square head, as well as improve ergonomics when tensioning the spokes from inside the rim. Another advantage is that the 3.6 mm square drive head has a narrow profile allowing for improved tool access inside the rim holes.

The 16 mm long 13 gauge Double Square nipples are compatible with rims that are drilled for standard 13 gauge nipples (rim holes between 4.7 and 4.9 mm diameter). However, compatibility issues may arise on extremely shallow rims where the nipple head will sit proud, outside of the rim holes. In such cases a standard 13 gauge nipple would be the best choice.

Please note, most spoke length calculators generate spoke lengths based on a regular (standard) nipple. However, the Pillar Double Square has a longer head and a greater depth of thread within the nipple. Therefor to calculate optimal spoke lengths, we recommend adding a minimum of one millimetre extra to the calculated spoke length, when the ERD measurement is calculated with a standard nipple.
